Who's Who at Chelmsford Theatre
We’ve been really impressed by the level of interest our fantastic customers take in our venue and the work we do. So we’ve decided to give you a little insight into the members of our team who enable Chelmsford Theatre to operate effectively and creatively.
Kicking these stories off is our brilliant Creative Engagement Officer, Megan Crisp who (among many other responsibilities) runs our very successful discover programme. Starting her career at 22 years old as a secondary school Drama teacher, Megan went on to run the Education and Outreach for Mid-Essex Libraries before joining the Chelmsford Theatre team in 2024. Here’s what she had to say when we caught up with her.
Tell us about your role at Chelmsford Theatre
As the Creative Engagement Officer, my main focus is building opportunities for the public, communities, schools, organisations and more to engage in the arts with us at Chelmsford Theatre! My day to day is so varied, but my days can be filled with planning holiday workshops, running story telling for little ones, setting up for life drawing, going to network meetings about dementia or popping to a school to run a workshop.
discover is something the team are hugely proud of at Chelmsford Theatre. Can you tell us more about what it is and who it’s for?
discover has so many different elements to it, but if I boiled it down, I would say discover is all about confidence, community, wellbeing, and learning. The most important thing is that discover is for everyone! We want Chelmsford Theatre to be a place that welcomes every person in the community to our space, and I think discover is working on achieving that.
What is your proudest achievement at your time with Chelmsford Theatre?
It has to be the Matilda Musical in Week. We were so lucky to be working with 30 incredible young people, who put together a whole show in just 5 days! It was also a great example of how every department here feeds into discover. The support of the technicians, front of house and marketing really made this whole project possible.
What personally inspires you to do what you do?
I find the endless possibilities of the arts so inspiring. There are so many things we could do, offer to our community, that I feel so motivated every day to build something amazing and exciting for Chelmsford and beyond!
What can we look forward to in the discover programme this season?
More musicals, more workshops, more stories, and more chances to get involved! I cannot wait to see our second Vibrant Voices schools event hit the main stage, and I am particularly excited for the start of our Dementia Friendly Cinema, with an excellent array of musical-themed films to get everyone feeling good!
